Amsterdam Sightseeing

Amsterdam has a lot of tourist spot attractions, which makes Amsterdam Sightseeing a very fun and wholesome experience. Amsterdam is the capital of Netherlands, and is considered to be its largest city. Amsterdam is also Netherlands’ financial and cultural capital. Amsterdam has a very good climate, which makes it more appealing and easy to visit for the tourists, they have moderate or milder winters, and even mellow heat on summer which makes the place more cooler compared to other countries. Amsterdam residents nowadays are comprised of different nationalities and only about 35-37% belong to an ethnic minority.

Amsterdam museums are primarily the main tourists attractions. They are part of Amsterdam’s rich culture and history. To date, Amsterdam has over fifty museums around the city in which visitors flock every year. Some of the popular museums to visit are: Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum.

The Rijksmuseum is the largest museum in Netherlands. It holds great masterpieces and collections of Dutch Art. Constructed in the 1800′s,it is considered to be one of the oldest museums of Amsterdam. One of the unique collections that Rijksmuseum holds are Rembrandt’s “Night watch” and several famous paintings by Van Dyck, Jan Steen and Vermeer.

Van Gogh Museum. A visit to this spectacular museum will allow you to see Van Gogh’s greatest and largest collection of paintings. The paintings in this museum are classified into 5 periods, representing Van Gogh’s life and works  including the Arles, Paris, Saint-Remy, Auvers-suroise and The Netherlands.

The Stedelijk Museum holds one of the modern art collections in the world, which could be very interesting to tourists who are sightseeing this museum. Aside from these three big museums, Amsterdam has lots of small museums and art galleries in the city for the tourists to take a glimpse of and appreciate the artworks and masterpieces of Dutch Art.

The world’s oldest stock exchange can also be found in Amsterdam. The Amsterdam Stock Exchange is one of the cities’ major tourist attractions, located in the city center, is visible enough for the visitors’ to pass by and take a good look at.

The Dam square is located in the center and heart of Amsterdam. The place used to cater as a reception area for Napoleon and his troops when they took over the city in 1808. The Royal Palace which is the main attraction of the square used to be the cities’ town hall. Hundreds of pigeon flock too in this spot!

Amsterdam is also famous for its canals and is popularly known as “The Venice of the North”. Amsterdam sightseeing wouldn’t be complete without a boat cruise in one of its fascinating canals. The four main beautiful canals of the city are

Prinsengracht, Herengracht,Singel and Keizersgracht. Riding along the canals will surely give tourists and visitors a very pleasant, relaxing and romantic experience.

Amsterdam Windmills are some of the countries famous landmark. Netherlands as we know is quite popular for its windmills. There are about 8 windmills at the heart of the city in which visitors can visit and take pictures of.

One of the famous park in Netherlands, the Vondelpark, is also must see place for tourists sightseeing around. Over 10 million visitors flock each year to see and visit this amazing park. At times free concerts are also hosted here during summer. The Vondelpark is a nice place in which people can get to relax, jog and walk.

Hortus Botanicus is also one of the oldest botanical garden in the world. It is Amsterdam’s biggest and attractive botanical garden where it currently has more than 6000 different kinds of plants. The agave cactus found in it is one of the oldest kinds of cactus in existence. Hortus Botanicus has a beautiful cafe to welcome visitors.

The Artis Zoo, one of the oldest zoo in Holland is also found in Amsterdam. Located in the center of Amsterdam, this is also one of the best place for sightseeing. The zoo Planetarium, Zoological and Geological museums are one of the four main areas of the Zoo.

Getting around in the city will give tourists a sight of some of Amsterdam’s landmark hotels. Among the oldest and historic hotels are Amstel Hotel and Hotel Krasnapolsky. You can also check directories to visit more spectacular places in Amsterdam.
