  • There is a world of activities that you can take part in and enjoy in Amsterdam and lots of places to visit and learn more about the history of Europe, art and culture among others.  The fascinating architecture, as I mentioned, is what thrills most holiday makers.  There are museums that define the ancient history of the ancestors who lived here dating back to as far as 200 B.C and back.  The Dam square is another major attraction within the heart of the city; Tourists love to take pictures around the square and capture the amazing façade on the exotic fine sculptures for those who would love Amsterdam Sightseeing.  Other places you can go to are the Gothic and Renaissance architecture in the old Oude Kerk church, Megere Bug, the Jordaan, winding canals of Amsterdam and Begijnhof.

  • What is for entertainment?  What will you do from the point the sun sets, or on a long weekend.  Maybe you just came to Amsterdam because this is a city of fun loving people.  For classic tourists, visiting the old architectural buildings may be all they need, but an energetic young tourist may be interested the bustling night life of Amsterdam that is characterized by color, music and generally life!  There are many bars and restaurants that host international bands and performers and there are clubs that play the latest music for those who want to dance the night away.  You can also watch a movie in one of the 50 movie halls or attend an orchestra at the Concertgebouw Orchestra – one of the world’s finest symphonic orchestra.  If you are into plays, you can watch live performance at either Nes Street or the popular Leidsplein theatre halls.

modern day fun is – weed, clubbing and the twilight ladies are plenty and legal.  Where else in the world could you have all the fun you want in one place.  Mind you, there are many things I consider ‘obvious’ that I have not covered such as the cuisine, hospitality of the people, the weather and amazing accommodation.  It is a good idea to go for holidays to Amsterdam – even if once in your life – and understand why so many people consider this city their fun ‘Mecca’ that they have to go on a pilgrimage.

The best time to go for holidays to Amsterdam depends on activities and the time of the year.  I would recommend that you find out which activities and festivals are held and the dates and you will get to visit the city when it is full of life and the culture of the people is in full display.

Holidays to Amsterdam – The Best Experience Ever

So you are planning your Holidays to Amsterdam? Million of tourists visit Amsterdam every year and if you haven’t visited yet, you are about to explore one of the most interesting places on Earth. There are many things that make Amsterdam (and The Netherlands) so unique. One of the main things you notice once you set foot in Amsterdam is the liberty of the people.

Amsterdam has become a place where anyone can express their cultural believes and you will see all kinds of people (from elegant business man to a hippie smoking weed in the street). On your arrival day on Amsterdam one of the things you will need to fix is your accommodation, tourist attractions and must-see places. There are plenty of tourist information offices where you can ask for a map of Amsterdam to begin your journey!

But… what makes Amsterdam so unique?

Canals: The canals of Amsterdam are one of the most beautiful elements of the country. The Netherlands is located under see level, which is the main reason why there are so many canals.

If you want to make the most out of your Holidays to Amsterdam, you must take a boat tour around the canals of city. You will get a ride you will never forget! There are different types of boat tours varying between 1 to 24 hours and with prices around €12.00.

Amsterdam Canals

Weed is Legal: There are hundreds of coffee shops in Amsterdam where the selling of weed is completely legal. Most coffee shops have a place to sit and have a good time with friends.

Many locals see these places as tourist traps, so there are big chances of you running into people from all countries. One of the most famous coffee shop is The Bulldog.

Clubbing: Amsterdam’s streets start getting very busy around 10pm when many locals and tourist gather up to party. One of the best places to go out in Amsterdam is Leidseplein, where you can find several nightclubs like Paradiso and Melkweg. Most of the Locals (specially students) drink mostly beer until the buddy can’t take it any more!

Prostitution is Legal: The Netherlands is one of the few countries where prostitution is legal. The Red Light District in Amsterdam is one of the top tourist attractions in The Netherlands. The best time of the day to walk through these streets is at night, preferably around 8pm, and you will be able to see prostitutes through the windows on the main streets.

There are some streets where prostitutes are open to flirt with tourist interested in their services, hoping to do a little business. The RLD is one of the most beautiful areas of Amsterdam which you can not miss!

Bicycles: The most common way of transportation is obviously the bicycle! There are more bicycles than humans in The Netherlands. If you want to experience a real Dutch adventure, the best (and cheapest) option would be to rent a Bike. You can rent a bike in RentaBike.com  for less than €9 Euros a day.

But sometimes biking can be a little exhausting and dangerous (many drunk students fall often into the water canals while drunk biking). So the best option to travel inside Amsterdam is by Tram. You can reach any place in Amsterdam by tram. Hourly tickets cost €2.50. If you are staying for longer than 5 days, the best option would be to buy a rechargeable traveling card (called OV-Chipcard) which you can use any time of the day.
